What to do in Seattle during the Fall
Seattle’s known for it’s rainy dark winters, and sunny green summers. But Seattle’s sunny warm weather in October makes the city and surrounding area a fantastic destination in the fall too.
If you’re looking for leaf peeping, you can find gorgeous parks right in the city like Lincoln Park, Volunteer Park, Green Lake, Golden Gardens, Kubota Garden, and the Washington Park Arboretum. Lincoln Park and Golden Gardens have the added benefit of being right on the Puget Sound. So not only will you get to see the beautiful vivid yellows, reds, and oranges of the foliage, you’ll get the fresh sea air and ambience too!
Fall is also a great time to check out downtown tourist destinations, which aren’t as busy as they are in the summer. Check out the Seattle Waterfront with it’s restaurants and aquariums, The Olympic Sculpture Park, and Pike Place Market. Or alternatively head up to the Seattle Center and visit The Space Needle, Chihuly Garden and Glass, The Science Center, and the MoPop Museum of Pop Culture. There’s also a gigantic singing fountain called the International Fountain on the grounds that’s fun to see and interact with.
For a day trip outside the city consider taking Chuckanut Drive North from Everett to Bellingham. It runs along the stony northwestern cliffs along the water, and gives you a taste of the scenery that extends all the way up to Alaska. On the way consider checking out Whidby Island. You can take the ferry from Mukilteo in the south, or take the bridge that connects the northern part of the island to the mainland and take the epic rocky coastal bridges through Deception Pass.
Some other fun day trips in the fall are the North Cascades National Park, Mount Rainier National Park, Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest, and Leavenworth, a mountain town with a Bavarian theme that will make you feel like you’re in historic Germany.
Seattle also has a ton of events around the fall like Oktoberfest with our many local breweries, music shows, and sports events. Fall is when Seattle’s sports overlap so you can see a Mariners baseball game, Sounders Soccer Game, Kraken hockey game, Seahawks football game, or Storm basketball game.
Seattle is a city with seemingly endless events and activities at any time of the year. Whether it’s the middle of summer, or a trip in the fall, Seattle and the Pacific Northwest always have something to offer.
